Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 package Crescent Roll Dough (about 8 oz)

Egg Mixture

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk or cream
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Cheese

  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or cheese blend)

Meat

  • 1 cup cooked breakfast sausage or bacon, crumbled

Vegetables (optional)

  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup diced bell peppers

Garnishes (optional)

  • Fresh herbs such as parsley or chives

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch casserole dish to ensure the casserole doesn’t stick and will be easy to serve.
  2. Layer the Crescent Rolls: Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the dish, covering the entire surface and sealing any perforations to create a flaky base.
  3. Cook the Breakfast Meat and Vegetables: In a skillet, cook your choice of breakfast sausage or bacon until browned and crumbly or crispy. If using onions and bell peppers, sauté them until soft and fragrant. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  4. Whisk the Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk or cream, salt, and pepper until well combined and slightly frothy for a light, fluffy texture.
  5. Assemble the Casserole: Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese evenly over the crescent roll base. Add the cooked meat and vegetables on top. Pour the egg mixture evenly over all, then top with the remaining cheese.
  6. Bake Until Golden: Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes or until the casserole is puffed, set in the center, and golden brown on top. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing to allow it to firm up.

Notes

  • Don’t overmix eggs; whisk just until combined for a tender texture.
  • Seal the crescent roll dough perforations well to prevent filling leakage.
  • Use fresh eggs and high-quality cheese for best flavor results.
  • Allow casserole to rest for at least 5 minutes after baking to avoid runny slices.
  • Add fresh herbs or green onions on top for added freshness and appeal.
