Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Protein

  • 1 lb ground beef (lean or regular)
  • 68 strips of bacon

Cheese

  • 1½ cups shredded cheese blend (mozzarella, cheddar, or a combo)

Bread

  • 1 Italian or French bread loaf

Vegetables and Aromatics

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Sauces and Seasonings

  • ½ cup tomato sauce or pizza sauce
  • 12 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for toasting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef and bacon filling: Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart until browned. Drain and remove excess grease. Add finely chopped onions and minced garlic, cooking until softened. Separately cook bacon strips until crisp, then crumble and add to the beef mixture. Stir in tomato or pizza sauce and Italian seasoning, continuing to cook until well combined and fragrant.
  2. Prepare the bread: Slice the bread loaf lengthwise, stopping short of cutting all the way through to keep it hinged. Hollow out some of the soft bread from the center to create space for the filling and to prevent sogginess.
  3. Assemble the bread: Generously spoon the beef, bacon, and sauce filling into the hollowed-out bread. Evenly sprinkle shredded cheese blend over the top to form a melty topping.
  4. Bake until perfection: Place the stuffed bread on a baking sheet. Add small pats of butter along the crust edges to ensure a golden, crispy finish. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the bread is toasted.
  5. Slice and serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly for easier slicing. Use a sharp knife to cut into portions and serve warm for the best cheesy, savory experience.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill the bread to keep the crust crispy and prevent sogginess.
  • Use freshly cooked bacon for optimal crispiness and less grease in the filling.
  • Let the beef mixture cool slightly before assembling to avoid softening the bread too much.
  • Butter the bread crust generously for a perfect golden and crunchy finish.
  • Mix cheeses (such as mozzarella and cheddar) for the best melt and flavor balance.
