Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
  • 4 cups marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 3 to 5 mini chocolate Easter eggs per nest

Optional Variations

  • 2 to 3 tablespoons peanut butter (for peanut butter twist)
  • Gluten-free crispy rice cereal (for gluten-free option)
  • Coconut oil and vegan marshmallows (for vegan version)
  • Pastel sprinkles (for extra festive flair)
  • Chopped dried cranberries or slivered almonds (for added texture and tang)

Instructions

  1. Melt the Butter and Marshmallows: Begin by melting the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Once melted, add the marshmallows and stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and fully melted, forming a glossy, sticky base.
  2. Combine with Rice Krispies: Remove the saucepan from heat and immediately fold in the Rice Krispies cereal gently but thoroughly, ensuring every piece is coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  3. Shape Into Nests: Let the mixture cool slightly until safe to handle. Using lightly buttered hands or a spatula, form small nests by shaping mounds with a hollow center on a parchment-lined tray for the eggs to nestle in.
  4. Add Mini Easter Eggs: While the nests are still slightly warm, place 3 to 5 mini chocolate Easter eggs into the hollow center of each nest so they stick securely.
  5. Let Them Set: Allow the nests to set at room temperature for about 30 minutes until firm. Alternatively, refrigerate briefly to speed up the setting process before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh marshmallows for smoother melting and better texture.
  • Melt butter and marshmallows over low heat to avoid scorching and clumping.
  • Lightly grease hands with butter or oil to prevent stickiness when shaping nests.
  • Press nests gently to maintain a crisp, airy consistency rather than compacting tightly.
  • Add mini eggs promptly after shaping so they don’t sink as the mixture cools.
