Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Batter

  • 1/2 cup (115g) butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup (35g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend for GF version)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Pumpkin Swirl

  • 3/4 cup (180g) pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brownie Batter: Start by whisking together the melted butter, sugar, and eggs until smooth and creamy. Next, sift in the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt, mixing until just combined to avoid overworking the batter.
  2. Mix the Pumpkin Swirl: In a separate bowl, blend the pumpkin puree with brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. This mixture adds moisture and the signature fall flavor to the brownies.
  3. Layer and Swirl: Pour half of the brownie batter into a greased pan. Dollop the pumpkin mixture evenly over the chocolate layer. Top with the remaining brownie batter, then use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the two mixtures together, creating beautiful marble patterns.
  4. Bake and Cool: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean with only a few moist crumbs. Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting to maintain their soft texture.

Notes

  • Don’t overmix the batter to keep the brownies fudgy and tender.
  • Use room temperature eggs and butter for smoother blending.
  • Measure pumpkin puree carefully; too much liquid affects texture.
  • Swirl gently to preserve the marbled design.
  • Cool completely before slicing to ensure clean cuts and soft texture.
